Doriot, Jacques
(1898-1945)
   political figure
   Born in Bresles, oise, Jacques Doriot was a metallurgist and secretary-general of the Jeunesses communistes, and served as deputy (1924) and as mayor of Saint-Denis. He was excluded from the Communist Party (1934) and moved toward fascism, founding the Parti populaire française (PPF, 1936) and the newspaper La Liberté, and he took a position against the Front populaire. A supporter of collaboration with Germany (1940), Doriot helped to form the Légion des volontaires français (LVF), an anti-Bolshevik group, and fought alongside the Germans on the Russian front.
